This was apart of The Black Stag prosthetic foot revolves around a world taken over by a fictional corporation called Starling. While they push for a world with more sustainable materials such as cotton, they also ban all sports to reduce the risk of injuries which would effect the productivity of their employees. The Runners are people that escape the perimeters of Starling where everyone is forced to live, to participate in underground and secret sports. Since there’s no proper sports equipment, footwear and apparel, they have to improvise and make their own products. Watch the video below for better context! I made a prosthetic foot for adaptive runners who want to participate in the new sport of alley racing. It combines parkour and running, where the participants need to run from checkpoint to checkpoint as fast as possible. The prosthetic foot needs to be made from easy to find and sustainable materials while also considering energy transfer, traction and suspension. I used a coil system that can be found from bikes and cars, and a new cotton fiber composite to allow the athlete to jump higher and run faster. The bottom of the prosthetic is made of recycled rubber from old tires to add traction for the uneven and slippery terrain.
